Job Description

This position is for a technically-minded highly organized professional to serve as a calibration laboratory assistant to perform in-house calibration and labeling on high volume semiconductor temperature sensor equipment. On-the-job (OJT) training provided for the right candidate.

As a Calibration Laboratory Assistant, you will inspect, test, calibrate and apply special labeling to a variety of thermodynamic equipment to ensure measurement accuracy. The calibration process is semi-automated and there is a huge emphasis on attention to detail in processing these sensors back to our clients. Barcoding, labeling and sorting is also a critical part of this position. Due to the volume of sensors to be calibrated, you will typically work with a team of 1-3 other assistants under direct supervision of a lab supervisor. This process involves proprietary programming in Python so operations of these programs will be taught. Previous experience in programming is highly regarded for potential improvements in the process.

This position will normally receive detailed instructions on work, acquire job skills, learn company policies and procedures to complete routine tasks, and work on assignments that are routine in nature where limited judgment is required.

Skills and Requirements

  • experience in Chemical/Biological/Mechanical/Testing laboratory is preferred

  • Experienced and aware of ISO 9000 and/or ISO 17025 quality assurance program desired

  • Must have a valid driver's license

  • Strong computer skills

  • Proficient with Windows, Microsoft Office, and Internet applications with an emphasis on Excel and Python. Similar programming experience a plus.

  • Proficient in customer service skills

  • Proficient math skills

  • Excellent attention to detail

  • Excellent organizational skills

  • Capable of lifting (50 pounds) unassisted

  • MUST Pass entrance exam (see Application Process below)

  • Minimum level of education required: High School Diploma

  • An Associate’s degree (or higher) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.

  • Experience in a laboratory environment preferred



  • Perform routine and complex calibrations on test, measurement and diagnostic equipment.

  • Works as part of a cross-functional team representing the laboratory to ensure customer satisfaction and timely turn-around on all equipment and service.

  • Maintain laboratory spaces clean and orderly. High production can easily lead to clutter.

  • Enters data into an asset tracking database.

  • Determining specifications/tolerances of equipment

  • Collect, compile, measure, summarize, and record data gathered during calibration

  • Identify out-of-tolerance conditions and perform corrective action via adjustments, component replacement, correction factors, etc.

  • Identify and correct measurement errors, as applicable

  • Prepare calibration certificates for review before submitting to customer

  • Interact with other technicians, managers, supervisors and customers

  • Proficient in the operations of the labs quality system which includes task and assigned responsibilities, documenting non-conformances, documenting preventive actions, documenting customer complaints, and documenting Opportunities for Improvement.

  • Understanding of quality systems and quality standards

  • Understand the usage of available Calibration Spreadsheets

  • Maintain a working knowledge of the laboratory’s quality system documentation to include the Quality Manual, Quality Procedures, Work Instructions and Forms.

  • Complete all assigned quality assurance training as assigned to include required readings as assigned

  • Promptly addresses customer requests, inquiries and complaints taking actions as appropriate to satisfy the customer or resolve the issue.

  • Must be familiar with and able to comply with good laboratory practices.

  • Must be able to troubleshoot common instrumental and analytical problems.

  • Other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned


Reports To

The Calibration Laboratory Assistant reports directly to the Thermodynamics Lab Supervisor.


Physical Demands/Work Environment

Ability to communicate orally with customers, management, and coworkers is crucial. Regular use of computers and email for communication is essential. Hearing and vision correctable to within normal ranges is essential for normal conversations, receiving ordinary information, and preparing or inspecting documents and calibration activities.

The ability to remain in a stationary position roughly 75% of the time, as well as the ability to move about the laboratory as required. Using a computer or calibrating while sitting or standing for extended periods is common. Continuous heavy lifting is not expected.

Upon completion of the online exam, you will be presented with your score. The exam is timed for 2 hours.
