This position is open for a dedicated teacher to give one on one attention to a capable 11 year old student in need of a booster for his love of learning. This teacher will give an independent assessment then prescribe and teach a curriculum to ensure he is ready for middle school in the 2022-2023 school year. It is also a goal for this student to write a book to be self-published before middle school; this is an opportunity to work on the necessary skill and gain confidence to carry with them in their education. The ideal candidate makes learning fun and is flexible in their approach while offering necessary structure and organizational skills that will help the student transition to a traditional classroom. There are existing online platform subscriptions that the teacher is encouraged to utilize including IXL Math and Education.com. Real world classroom experience is necessary, Covid vaccine not required, retired (or otherwise out of work) teachers highly encouraged to apply.

A little more about the student: The student is an 11 year old boy. He is brilliant and in need of dedicated time and expertise. He has a mix of homeschool and public school experiences and has closable gaps in his learning that this teacher will fill. He likes music, video games, sports and youtube. Historically a strong reader that is challenged by writing, currently good at math and learning to communicate his learning in the common core system.

A little more about the setting: The family is willing to travel to and compensate the use of a co-working, library or office space that works for all parties in the Greater Downtown Seattle to South King County areas along the I-5 corridor. Once a location is determined the teacher will be working directly with the student with access to another trusted adult nearby.


Duties and Responsibilities:

• Thorough knowledge of and ability to teach common core math concepts, writing, and science (chemistry, biology and physics).
  
  
• Structured and consistent personality with a willingness to help the student build these qualities.
  
  
• Honor anti-racist principles.
  
  
• Willingness to shift curriculum timeline and strategies to meet the learning needs of the student, prioritizing the mission above the path.
  
  
• Strong verbal and written communication skills to clearly explain challenging concepts, provide instructions and deliver feedback
  
  
• Ability to motivate and encourage student to improve their academic performance using effective goal-setting strategies
  
  
• Creativity and flexibility to personalize their learning approach for the student
  
  
• Patience and compassion for students as he develops skills and improves his performance
  
  
• Previous demonstrated excellence in teaching
  
  
• Weekday one-on-one teaching, weekly assessments and follow-up with the student
  
  
• Ability to travel to the Beacon Hill/International District neighborhood of Seattle for weekday sessions

Schedule and Compensation:

Initial Assessment (by Jan 14th, 2022) & Custom Curriculum/Learning Plan (at least a month pre-planned) compensated at $200-$500 each.

Administration of Curriculum ($35/Hr x 2hr/day x 3-5 days/wk through Jan 10-Jun-30, 2022)

Job Types: Part-time, Contract

Pay: $35.00 - $45.00 per hour
