Team Nurse

Job Summary:

Consults, educates and responds to patient needs by providing clinical guidance in the Kotsanis Institute PA. Provides assistance to doctor, patients and other health care providers regarding referrals, authorized medical information and other clinical issues. Manages patient care. Secondarily assists with business office functions related to patient care, supplements and documentation.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Consults with and educates new and established patients and family members by developing rapport and promoting long term relationships. Provides medication, supplements, dosing, nutritional and diet information with detailed instructions as directed by doctor and mid-levels.

2. Explains doctor ordered lab testing, purpose and benefits of labs, including preparation procedures. Ensures patients are scheduled for labs. Ensures lab follow-up through office staff. Answers questions and maintains an open line of communication with patients. Provides treatment and nutrition information to help and support patients to follow recommendations.

3. Coaches patient families through nutritional, supplement and lab protocols. Answers questions. Provides patient & consumer resource information to help/guide patients to follow recommendations.

4. Manages assigned patient cases to ensure on-going treatment protocol follow up. Ensures treatment results are tracked and documented for case study reporting purposes. Keeps practitioners updated on case management issues. Makes changes to case protocols as directed by practitioners.

5. Uses the clinical process to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care. Performs focused interviews to identify specific patient needs. Verifies patient information through patient consultation. Reviews and/or records medical history. Follows up with patient and family member inquiries for assistance.

6. Follows up with patients by phone and/or email. Designates patient call back times to scheduled hours of the work day. Makes calls, addresses issues and documents actions/information in patient files.

7. Verifies that the practitioner has documented patient files. Ensures practitioner is made aware of need to complete documentation.

8. Administers LDA’s (Low Dose Antigen) injections according to protocol after practitioner has confirmed that patient is ready.

9. Starts IV’s using trained techniques and protocols. As needed, mixes IV’s according to practitioner orders. Administers protocol through completion when other clinical assistants are not available.

10. Assesses signs and symptoms of patient health concerns. Indicates physiologic and psychosocial changes in patient condition. Keeps practitioner appraised of issues as they arise.

11. Generates revenues by recording Super Bill with proper diagnosis codes, procedure codes and associated charges. Provides Super Bill to administrative staff for processing and patient check-out.

Secondary Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Prepares patients for their visit by directing and assisting them in the examining room; Provides examination gowns and drapes; helps them to position themselves for the examination and/or

treatment. Assures that work areas are always stocked with necessary supplies. Arranges examining room instruments, supplies, and equipment. Takes vital signs. Confirms purpose of visit or treatment. Explains treatment. Prepares exam rooms for next patients. Supports patient care delivery by helping practitioner during examinations.

2. Monitors clinical office flow as needed.

3. Prepares laboratory specimens. Performs basic laboratory tests on the premises. Disposes of contaminated supplies. Sterilizes medical instruments. Administers medications and authorizes drug refills as directed by the practitioner. Telephones or faxes prescriptions to pharmacies. Draws blood. Prepares patients for treatments.

4. Keeps supplies ready by inventorying clinical stock; placing orders; verifying receipt.

5. Keeps equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs.

6. Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following, and enforcing standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations.

7. Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by keeping patient care information confidential.

8. Serves and protects practice by adhering to professional standards, policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements and standards.

9. Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.

10. Enhances Kotsanis Institute health care practice reputation by remaining open to new ideas focused upon continuous improvement. Takes ownership for applying new and different protocols, request and sharing educational information. Explores opportunities to add value to job accomplishments, reduce costs, improve efficiencies and increase revenue generation for the practice.

Skills: Clinical medical skills. Excellent customer service skills. Knowledge of special needs patients, cancer treatments and wellness related treatment approaches a plus. Proficient in Microsoft Office.

Qualifications:

· Active license in Texas

  • One year prior professional clinical experience preferred.
