Process Engineer

Schafer Powder Coating, Indiana’s premier powder coater, located in Whitestown (northwest suburban Indianapolis), is looking for a Process Engineer to join our team. The Process Engineer is responsible for supporting the production team and leading efforts at continuous improvement.

Assist the production team in achieving safety, quality, productivity, and cost goals. Effective communication and the ability to promote a positive workplace culture is paramount.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Support the manufacturing process and drive continuous improvement

  • Monitor quality (first-pass acceptance, film thickness) for conformance to customers’ specifications

  • Evaluate efficiency of existing processes (line speed, fixturing, part spacing and orientation, automatic gun programming, repeatability of inputs to outputs).

  • Develop and document standard operating procedures (SOP).

  • Maintain technical expertise in the operation and maintenance of powder coating and shot blast equipment

  • Troubleshoot


  • Bachelor’s Degree in relevant engineering discipline.

  • Experience in manufacturing environment.

  • Effective written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to adapt and overcome obstacles in a dynamic and fast-paced work environment.

  • High learning agility to absorb large amounts of information, including customer requirements, manufacturing processes, and employee skillsets.

  • Computer-Aided-Design (CAD) experience a plus.

Physical Demands

In order to trial and troubleshoot processes, the Process Engineer must be hands-on oriented and physically capable of performing tasks regularly performed by Production Associates. Associates are required to stand, bend, and kneel and to use hands and fingers to feel, handle, or operate objects, tools, or controls. This includes being able to lift/move up to 50 lbs.

Position Type / Expected Hours of Work

This is a regular, full-time position with paid overtime. Process Engineers are expected to work 45-50 hours per week.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $51,000 - $62,000 per year (based on 45 hrs/week) plus overtime and bonuses
